With Invisalign®, you’re not just straightening teeth—you’re giving yourself the freedom to smile without holding back.
What Is Invisalign®?
Invisalign® is a clear, comfortable, and discreet way to straighten your teeth — without the look or feel of traditional braces. Instead of brackets and wires, Invisalign uses a series of custom-made, removable aligners that gently guide your teeth into their ideal position over time. Each aligner is made from smooth, nearly invisible material that fits snugly over your teeth, making it easy to smile confidently throughout your treatment.
At Montana Dental Works, we take Invisalign a step further by combining it with state-of-the-art digital technology. Dr. Dan McAllister, Dr. Sarah Fontana, and Dr. Riley Hanson use advanced Trios 3Shape digital scanning and precision mapping software to design a treatment plan unique to your smile and goals. This means no messy impressions, no guesswork, and a clear preview of your expected results before you even begin. The outcome? A straighter, healthier smile that looks and feels natural — all achieved with accuracy, comfort, and efficiency.

Every aligner brings you closer to a smile that feels natural, healthy, and completely yours. The Invisalign® Process at Montana Dental Works
Our Invisalign® process is designed to be simple, comfortable, and personalized every step of the way.
Step 1. Consultation & Digital Smile Preview
We start with a comprehensive exam and high-resolution digital scans using our Trios 3Shape Scanner — no goopy, uncomfortable impressions here. We’ll create a 3D simulation of your future smile so you can see your potential results before committing to treatment.
Step 2. Custom Aligner Fabrication
Your scans are sent to Invisalign®, where your aligners are custom-crafted to fit your teeth perfectly and guide them into alignment in small, precise steps.
Step 3. Wearing Your Aligners
For the best results, you’ll wear your aligners 20–22 hours a day, removing them only to eat, drink anything other than water, brush, and floss.
Step 4. Progress Check-Ins
You’ll visit us every 6–8 weeks so our team can monitor your progress, make adjustments if needed, and provide your next series of aligners.
Step 5. Retention Phase
Once your smile is beautifully aligned, we’ll provide custom retainers to help maintain your results for years to come.
Common Orthodontic Issues Invisalign® Can Fix
Invisalign® is more than just a cosmetic solution — it’s a highly effective treatment for a wide range of orthodontic problems. Using clear, removable aligners, Invisalign® gently shifts your teeth into proper alignment without the hassle of metal braces. At Montana
Dental Works, our doctors have helped patients address:
-
Crowded Teeth
When there’s not enough room in your jaw, teeth can overlap, twist, or become bunched together. Crowding can make it difficult to clean between teeth, increasing the risk of cavities and gum disease. Invisalign® gradually creates space and straightens your teeth for a healthier, easier-to-clean smile. -
Gaps and Spaces
Whether caused by genetics, missing teeth, or shifting over time, gaps between teeth can affect both appearance and oral health. Invisalign® closes these spaces evenly, improving your bite and creating a more balanced smile. -
Overbite
An overbite occurs when the upper front teeth significantly overlap the lower front teeth. Left untreated, this can lead to tooth wear, jaw discomfort, and even speech issues. Invisalign® can reposition teeth and align the bite for better function and comfort. -
Underbite
When the lower front teeth sit in front of the upper front teeth, chewing and speaking can become difficult. Invisalign® works to move the lower teeth back or upper teeth forward into proper alignment, depending on the cause. -
Crossbite
A crossbite happens when some upper teeth bite inside the lower teeth. This can cause uneven tooth wear, gum recession, and jaw pain. Invisalign® corrects crossbites by gradually guiding teeth into their proper position. -
Open Bite
If your upper and lower teeth don’t touch when your mouth is closed, you may have an open bite. This can make it challenging to bite into foods and may affect speech. Invisalign® can close the gap by moving teeth into better contact.

Invisalign SmartForce™ Attachments
What They Are, How They Work, and What to Expect
At Montana Dental Works, we want every Invisalign patient to feel confident about the treatment process. One part of Invisalign that surprises many people is the use of SmartForce™ attachments—tiny, tooth-colored “bumps” that help your aligners do their job.
What are SmartForce™ attachments?
SmartForce attachments, sometimes called “Invisalign buttons,” are very small, custom-shaped pieces placed on certain teeth during your treatment. Because they’re made to blend with your natural teeth, they are barely noticeable. Think of them as little handles your aligners can gently push against to guide teeth into their ideal positions.
Why are they important?
These attachments are part of Invisalign’s innovative system that makes it possible to treat a wide range of orthodontic cases—many that traditionally required braces. By giving the aligners extra grip, SmartForce attachments:
-
Provide gentle, precise pressure to move teeth more effectively
-
Help minimize unwanted movements
-
Allow orthodontists to treat more complex cases with clear aligners
Will I need SmartForce™ attachments?
Not every patient needs them. Whether you do depends on the specific tooth movements required in your treatment plan. If attachments are recommended, it means your orthodontist wants to make sure your aligners deliver the most accurate and efficient results possible.
How many will I need?
The number and placement of attachments vary from person to person. Some patients only need one or two; others may need several. Our team at Montana Dental Works will customize your Invisalign treatment so you get exactly what your smile needs—nothing more, nothing less.
